At Concord College International School (CCIS) we aim to create a caring and supportive environment for the development of all our students. As an international school bringing students together from Malaysia, the region and from around the world, our pastoral care is based on our core values of harmony, trust and decency.
In this environment, achievement is celebrated, kindness expected and bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. We encourage age-appropriate independence, maturity and responsibility in every student in our care in a community which promotes understanding and mutual respect.
Children and young people have unique personal, social (wellbeing) and academic needs. All teachers and support staff at CCIS will be trained to understand these needs and to nurture the students in our care.
In Concord Secondary, the pastoral care system is based on Concord College UK. In this model, the tutor knows each student as an individual by monitoring their progress academically, fostering their wider interests outside the classroom and enabling them to flourish. Tutors will guide and support students to encourage them to make the most of opportunities, to successfully navigate challenges and to be active and responsible members of the school community.
In Concord Primary, the tutor’s role will taken by the class teacher. In addition to delivering core curriculum lessons, class teachers will coordinate aspects of general school life for Primary students including their wellbeing. Through regular communication with specialist teachers, assistant teachers and parents, class teachers will ensure that students are meeting milestones, making good progress and are being emotionally supported at school.
Student safety and wellbeing are a key priority. The campus will provide a secure and safe environment for students to learn and to flourish. Campus security, CCTV, an ID and lanyard system for all staff, secondary students and visitors will be in place to ensure that all reasonable steps have been taken to ensure the campus is safe and that young people feel secure.
Pastoral care is the responsibility of all members of staff within the school and essential to student development. At CCIS issues around Pastoral Care and Safeguarding will be overseen by the Deputy Head as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
CCIS recognises that safeguarding and the promotion of child welfare is critical. Safeguarding practices will be in line with UK standards. Teaching staff, non‐teaching staff, volunteers, students and visitors are expected to respect this core principle. When children and young people feel safe, they can realise their full potential.
